MEETINGS
The COVID-19 outbreak negatively affects ongoing or planned activities under the Erasmus+ programme and European Solidarity Corps. The European Commission’s main objective is the safety and protection of all Erasmus+ and European Solidarity Corps participants, while fully respecting all the containment measures taken at national level.
In the context of COVID pandemic, with all the Project activities postponed, Domingo Ferrandis has started a series of online workshops that allow beneficiaries to get in touch with each other and to get to know ATENEA’s methodology, paving the way for the face-to-face activities starting in September.
These online monthly sessions have started in March and will take place until July, they have served beneficiaries to meet each other and to start building trust. Taking into account the lockdown put in place in several EU countries during the first month of 2021, Domingo’s workshops have also helped beneficiaries to break the monotony and find the support of others in some difficult time.
In parallel, consortium members have celebrated the kick-off meeting online in early February 2021 (when travelling was not allowed) and have held monthly online meetings to evaluate the state of the project and the next steps to be taken. So far, partners have collected data from surveys carried out amongst vulnerable and not vulnerable groups and are analysing them to evaluate the state of stigma in Europe. The final results will be available in the coming weeks.
The first Learning, Teaching, Training Activity in Valencia, Spain
The first Learning, teaching and training activity of our project organized from the 26th to the 30th of September in Valencia, Spain.
The five partner organisations - Euro-Med Youth Federation (Germany), K.A.NE. (Greece), Les Cultures (Italy), ENTRI – Entrepreneurship Institute (Lithuania) and DRPDNM – Društvo za razvijanje prostovoljnega dela Novo mesto (Slovenia) - were hosted by the Valencian NGO Associació Àmbit, coordinator of the project.
Almost 30 people took part in the LTTA: five beneficiaries per country and the accompanying persons.
During the five days spent in Valencia Domingo Ferrandis has conveyed the particularities of autobiographical theatre to the partecipants through various activities with the aim of allowing the vulnerable groups to transform their life stories into a theatrical piece that they will perform in their country next year.
It was precisely a piece performed by the Àmbit theater company under the direction of Ferrandis, “Un mundo aparte dentro del mundo”, that gave rise to ATENEA project, and the international group had the chance to attend the performance of this piece at La Mutant.
All the activities carried out during the five days took place in relevant locations and places of interest such as the Carme Contemporary Cultural Centre, the Museum of Fine Arts, the Cabanyal neighborhood and the Turia Gardens. This gave the chance to the partecipants to visit Valencia and to enjoy what it offers.
The next workshop will take place in Kalamata, Greece from 21st to 25th October.
The second Learning, Teaching, Training Activity in Kalamata, Greece
After the first LTTA held in Valencia in September, from 21st to 25th October in Kalamata, Greece, took place the second LTTA of the project.
K.A.NE., the Greek partner organisation, hosted a group of people coming from Italy, Lithuania, Slovenia, Germany, and Spain.
The aim of the LTTA was to work on narrative, the second stage of ATENEA methodology.
During their stay in Kalamata the participants had the chance to meet many people. The stories of the tour guide Haralabos Papanikolaou, of the farmer Panos Filopoulos, and of the theatre actor and play writer Christina Tzialla together with her mum Vasiliki Kateri, a visual artist and artistic director, allowed the participants to understand the bond of people with the roots of a place.
The group also met professionals who work with narrative: the journalist Gulie Sardeli, the author Efthymios Aleksopoulos and the creative thinking trainer Angela Zagoura. It has been an important chance to receive precious tips on how to approach this difficult and spiritual work.
On the last day, participants visited the Kalamata Creative Documentary Center. The artistic director Tzina Petropoulou spoke about the activities of the centre, mainly focused on documentary production and the organisation of the increasingly famous Peloponnese International Documentary Festival and workshops for children.
With the experiences and knowledge acquired, each group of beneficiaries can now start co-creating their own fictional narrative.
The next LTTA will take place in Lecco, Italy, from 18th to 22nd November.
The third Learning, Teaching, Training Activity in Lecco, Italy
From 18th to 22nd November ATENEA participants experienced a unique experience in Italy, the country of Art. The LTTA was held in Lecco, Italy. The partners of the consortium were hosted by the Italian non-profit organization Les Cultures .
Almost 40 people took part in the LTTA counting beneficiaries, coordinators and accompanying persons. The title was "From paper to stage - Aesthetics" and all the activities organized aimed at helping the participants to develop skills in this field.
The tourist guide Donato Moretti led the group through Lecco city center focusing on the places Alessandro Manzoni described in his masterpiece The Betrothed. For the participants it was a precious chance to learn about this novel and its author which are both symbols of Lecco. In the afternoon they met two professionals who work with aesthetics: the graphic designer and exhibition curator Paolo Vallara and the interior designer Guido Camandona. The former presented his project I Passaporti dei Promessi Sposi and the latter spoke about the realization of the exhibition that originated from this idea.
A whole day was spent in Milan, where the group visited the theatre school “Proxima Res” that is also a theatre company. The participants met Margherita Baldoni, set and costume designer, who told them the secrets of her job. They also visited Teatro alla Scala Museum with a special guide: Maria Grazia Caglio, who works as set designer at La Scala Theatre.
The fourth day was dedicated to scenography. A workshop was led by the art collective Teste di Idra, a group of young artists who express themselves using different forms of expression such as photography, poetry, paint. They gave the group precious tips on how to use these artistic expressions to realize the scenography of the performance they will have to stage at the end of the project.
The last day of the LTTA in Lecco marked also the end of the training phase of ATENEA project. Before greeting, Domingo Ferrandis went through the different steps of autobiographical theatre methodology and helped the participants to bring all the ideas together.
Now, it's time for each group to work on its own on the realization of the local performances!
They will meet again in June 2022 at the international autobiographical festival organized in Valencia.

The final Learning, Teaching, Training Activity in Valencia, Spain
The last Learning, Teaching and Training Activity of our project took place in Valencia from 24th to 28th June in Valencia, Spain, where partners were hosted by the coordinator Associació Àmbit.
Great part of the activities took part in Nazaret neighborhood, an area of the city that is strongly related to segregation and stigma. It was born as an area where merchants and travelers could spend the quarantine during 1720 plague and later the needs to enlarge the city caused this area to expand with houses and barracks where fishermen and dock workers could live. During the '70s Nazaret neighborhood met years of decay due to it’s strong gypsy influence and its drug-related activities at the commercial port. However, it has always had a strong identity and many cultural associations were and are still based there. Over the past few years a process of gentrification has been affecting many neighborhoods in Valencia, including Nazaret, where a huge number of infrastructural projects will take place in the mid-term.
The first activity was a celebration of St Juan: we created a small bonfire where we burned the papers on which we wrote our wishes.
Heading 1
The day after the group met again in Nazaret for a common dinner together with the inhabitants of the neighborhood. After that, the Festival of autobiorgaphical theatre was opened and the scenincal piece Un mundo aparte dentro del mundo was performend by Spanish beneficiaries . On Saturday night at Centro Arrupe, in the city center, took place the second part of the Festival and each group performed its piece.
The day after, the participants met at Centro municipal de juventud de Nazaret. Domingo Ferrandis taught them a choreography that they practiced all together. After that, they shared their feelings and thoughts about the journey started in September 2021. In Valencia took place also the last Transnational Project Meeting, during which coordinators discussed the work done so far and the further steps to make before the end of the project in September 2022.
